The Animal Control Department works to unite owners with
their lost pets and to promote the adoption of unclaimed, unwanted,
stray and abandoned pets within the Terrell City limits. The City
of Terrell does not pick up or accept animals from outside the city limits,
but you are not required to be a resident of Terrell to adopt or reclaim
an animal.
Leash Law

It shall be unlawful for the owner or harborer
of any dog or cat to permit such dog or cat to run at large within the
city limits. (Sec. 3-11)
Vaccination

All dogs and cats 4 months of age and older must be vaccinated for rabies
annually by a licensed veterinarian.
Dog/Cat License

Terrell City residents are required to purchase a license for their
dogs and cats for a fee of $7.00. The license is valid for one
year.
Reclaiming a Pet

Persons reclaiming a lost pet will be charged a boarding fee of $5.00
per day and must show proof of a current rabies vaccination. Terrell
City residents are also required to purchase a license for $7.00.
Stray animals are held a minimum of five days. Animals wearing ID tags are
held for ten days.
Animal Adoption

Persons adopting a cat or dog from the Terrell Animal Shelter will be
required to sign an adoption agreement stating that they will have the
animal vaccinated for rabies from a licensed veterinarian and spayed
or neutered. The Terrell Animal Shelter provides a voucher for
free spaying or neutering through Animal Allies of Texas, to be redeemed
at the Kaufman County Animal Awareness Project in Crandall.
Animals available for adoption may be seen at the shelter, 2601 Hwy.
80 East. Shelter hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Adopted animals may not be returned to the Terrell Animal Shelter. All
efforts should be made to provide the animal with a loving, secure environment.
If it becomes impossible to keep an adopted animal, please turn it over
to the ASPCA or to a loving and caring family.

Shake is a grand dog. We think he is part Pyrenees, border collie
or Australian Shepard and maybe Dalmatian. Designed for an active
family with good fences this guy is already trained to shake hands
and will sit on command. Pyrenees are known for being escape artists,
especially if these smart dogs are not occupied. They are very
loyal and are very large.

This pit bull mix is playful and will grow to be a powerful energetic
dog. Is he right for your home? |

This little pup is a border collie that is about 5 or 6 months
old. He is really sweet and ready to start his life on the farm
herding animals or in a home with a big back yard with plenty of
room to play chase with some kids. These dogs are smart and friendly. |

A Chihuahua is non allergenic, compact, easy to feed and care
for. This little girl is is looking for a new home after she got
lost in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. |
