Ask The Mayor

Q. - When is the City going to trim some of
the trees in our area so we can get our motorhome down the road without
running someone off the road or doing damage to our motorhome?
Also, who is responsible for low hanging wires
over the roads that something with a 13 foot clearance can't get under,
you know like motorhomes, buses, the fire dept.
Answer - Thanks for your inquiry.
Property owners are primarily responsible for maintaining trees and
landscaping so that it does not become a traffic or pedestrian hazard.
In some cases, a City crew will trim trees if branches are too low over
the street, but the City does not have the manpower to constantly maintain
trees all over the City.
The rule of thumb is to trim trees that intrude into the right of way
if the branches are lower than 12 feet. The clearance height of our
tallest Fire Apparatus is 11 ½ feet. The utility companies (electric,
phone, cable) are responsible for adequate clearance of overhead wires.
The City relies on citizens to report specific addresses where any
hazard or problem exists. This is not only for low branches and low
wires, but also for water leaks, potholes, and code violations. There
are specific sites on the web site for such reports or they can be directed
to the administration department by
email or by telephone at 972-551-6600.
Sincerely,
Hal Richards, Mayor
