Ask The Mayor

Q. - As I sit and listen to the scanner and
notice yet another major accident with serious injuries at the intersection
of 205 and Colquitt, I wonder why we don't put a stoplight there? Is
this within city limits? Not long ago a 16 year old girl lost her life
at the same intersection.
Who would we contact to get this accomplished?
Thanks.
Answer - I appreciate your taking time to submit your
question.
State Highway 205 is under the jurisdiction and exclusive control of
the Texas Department of Transportation. The City of Terrell will request
that TXDOT research this intersection and look into ways to improve
traffic safety at this intersection.
It normally takes several months for this process to result in an answer
or action.
Here is the history of the accidents at this intersection.
2008(Thru Sept.) 7
2007 6
2006 4
2005 2
2004 2
2003 2
2002 1

On February 15, 2007 TXDOT sent a letter to the City to inform us that
a speed zone study had been completed and they were raising the speed
limit on SH 205 north of US 80 (including this intersection) from 55
to 60. Speed limit signs were changed earlier this year.
TXDOT has a district office in Kaufman that can be contacted at (972)
962-3617 if you need more information than is provided here.
Sincerely,
Hal Richards, Mayor
