Q. - Our neighborhood
has experienced a rash of thefts and acts of vandalism using ballbearings. Large groups of youths (approx 10-12 years old) are walking
the streets at 2 a.m.
My neighbors and I are reasonably sure that
younger kids are performing the acts due to the articles taken or not
taken during the thefts.
What can we do to get a curfew imposed so
that these younger children can't be out at that time of night and/or
their guardians will be held responsible for their whereabouts?
Answer - Thank you for your question.
The City of
Terrell has a curfew that applies to children under 16 years of age.
It is in effect from 11:00 PM on Sunday through Thursday and from
12:30 AM on Friday and Saturday nights.
If any citizen observes children out during curfew times they should
immediately call police and report it. If possible, it would be helpful
to report the number of individuals, their description (as much as possible),
where they were seen and when, whether they were walking or riding bikes,
and which direction they appeared to be going.
The police need the eyes and ears of citizens like you to help protect
our community. Any time you see anything suspicious, please call 972-551-6622.
Your question prompts me to realize that we need to increase our effort
to publicize our curfew ordinance.
Sincerely,
Hal Richards
