Ask The Mayor

Q - I am looking to
offer a helping hand to those elderly in need. I would like
to support our community by volunteering my time to help someone
less fortunate. However I don't know how to go about finding
those that truly need help.
I am not looking to make large financial donations,
but to offer my time. I am willing to take on some expense to
help complete around-the -home projects (or) things that maybe
someone is unable to physically complete any longer.
Any suggestions?
A. - You will be joining a lot of good
people in Terrell who give generously of their time. Since you
specifically mentioned that you would like to volunteer to help
elderly people in need, I suggest you contact one or both of
these organizations.
The Share Center is a wonderful organization that is helping
a lot of needy people in our town. They provide food, clothing,
and other assistance to people in need in this community. Many
of their clients are senior citizens who need help making ends
meet.

Another organization that always needs volunteer support is
Kaufman County Senior Citizens Services. They run the Meals on
Wheels program along with a number of other programs that help
senior citizens.
