Q. - This is both
an inquiry and a statement. On my most current tax statement there was
an indication that city taxes were reduced by sales tax $99.36. To apply
common sense, does that mean the more sales tax dollars we generate the
lower our property taxes will be? If this is indeed the case, then I
want to see nothing but new businesses all over Terrell! I will even
get on the phone and solicit new businesses on behalf of our town !!!
Pass this on the the Economic Development
people. Thanks
Answer - Thanks for the input. Do you know that Terrell
was one of the first Cities in the State to implement the 1/2 cent
sales tax to reduce property taxes?
This was a great decision since a large percentage of the sales tax
collected in our city is paid by people who do not live within the
City limits. How cool is that?
We are working hard to continue to attract more business, particularly
retail and restaurants. As a matter of fact we have a new person on
board at the City whose primary responsibility is to recruit and assist
new retail and restaurant development.
Thanks for letting me hear from you.
Sincerely,
Hal Richards
Mayor
