Q. - I am seeing
an increasingly amount of hispanics in the Great City
of Terrell. Is Terrell considered a "santuary city"?
Answer - Thank you for your question.
As I understand it, there are some cities in the country that have
declared themselves as sanctuary cities, meaning that they will not
report to Federal authorities anyone suspected of being in the country
illegally. This is not the policy of the City of Terrell.
As standard operating procedure, the Terrell Police Service seeks to
identify anyone who has violated the law. If a person can not produce
proper identification and leads an officer to suspect that he may not
be in the country legally, then proper federal authorities are notified.
Under our constitution, responsibility for immigration rests with the
Federal Government.
Sincerely,
Hal Richards
