Q. - Is it likely there will be any funds to add and/or upgrade sidewalks, especially leading downtown? Terrell is such an attractive town with interesting shops downtown, but they can be hard to get to on foot.

 

Walking is good for health, and it is nice to walk with a destination in mind. I like to take my sister for walks, and she is wheelchair bound. We often have to roll her in the street because there is no sidewalk or no access to a sidewalk. I hope this can be addressed sometime in the future. Thank you.

Answer - We have a very extensive sidewalk project in final planning now. It is funded as a part of the “Safe Routes to School” grant program in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation. As the name implies the focus of the sidewalk construction is to provide safety for children but everyone who uses these sidewalks will benefit.

 

None of these sidewalks will be providing access to downtown. The City of Terrell does not have any other sidewalk construction projects budgeted at this time. As the economy continues to improve, hopefully we will be able to fund such worthy projects.
