About WINGS
WINGS: Adult Education Programs are free classes for adults (ages 18 and older.) Students must obtain a library card to participate in these programs. To obtain a card, please go to Riter C. Hulsey Public Library at 301 N Rockwall Avenue, Terrell, Texas, or follow this link to request an E-card. Library cards are free to first-time patrons.
About ESL/ELL
ESL/ELL courses are designed for people with limited English language skills, regardless of their primary language. Due to the growing diversity of the communities WINGS serves, ESL Classes are taught in an immersive English style that encourages each student to hear, speak, and write English, regardless of their primary language. Although WINGS has a limited number of public laptop computers for student use, it is highly recommended that each student have a personal device to access their lessons.
WINGS: Adult Education is excited to be partnering with Trininty Valley Community College - Terrell Campus in 2023-2024! The partnership will allow the WINGS Program to utilize TVCC classrooms for upcoming programming in Fall 2023. WINGS Students must have a WINGS-issued Student ID and a WINGS-issued Parking Permit to be permitted on the TVCC - Terrell Campus. These items will only be available to rostered students that have completed all of the enrollment requirements.
Types of ESL Classes
Three levels of classes - Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. Although students may have a class preference, a Placement Exam must be completed and students will be assigned to the class that best matches their language level.
In-Person Classes
Over 30 weeks, these classes are held face-to-face, once a week for a duration of 2 hours. Each student has access to a digital textbook that they can access for review and study anytime and any place. Classes are taught in an immersive English style. Knowledge of using digital devices is helpful in accessing the digital content of classes.
Online Classes
Students that enroll in online learning have from September - May to complete the online lessons at their language level. If a student has not completed all lessons within the academic year, then they will need to re-enroll for the following school year.
2023-2024 ESL Class Schedule
Class dates are guided by the academic calendars of local school districts and colleges with most classes meeting from September - May. Holidays are announced on each class syllabus and posted on class message boards. **Childcare is not provided.**
