How to Participate in HCV

Families on the voucher program can choose to select their own housing within Terrell Housing Department’s jurisdiction.  Terrell Housing Department pays a portion of an eligible family’s rent each month directly to the landlord, and the family pays between 30 and 40 percent of their household income toward rent.  Terrell Housing Department provides rental assistance to approximately 400 households.

Here are the steps to participate in the HCV program:

  1. Apply and Attend Eligibility Interview
  2. Attend Scheduled Briefing/Orientation
  3. Locate a Unit and Use Your Voucher
  4. Await Inspection Results
  5. Sign Lease & Move into Your Unit
  6. Pay Your Rent Portion & Utilities
  7. Comply with HUD and Terrell Housing Department’s rules and regulations
